The Nebraska Corn Growers Association is asking your help in contacting the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regarding a May 6, 2011 petition from the group Save the Frogs. The petition asks EPA to ban the use and production of Atrazine.
NeCGA is disappointed that EPA once again has to examine the use of Atrazine. Atrazine passes the most stringent, up-to-date safety requirements in the world. As recently as April 201 EPA issued the following statement on amphibians “…atrazine does not adversely affect amphibian gonadal development based on a review of laboratory and field studies, including studies submitted by the registrant and studies published in the scientific literature. At this time, EPA believes that no additional testing is warranted to address this issue.”
We are asking you to take a moment to send comments to EPA encouraging them to once again acknowledge that Atrazine is safe for farmers to use as an effective management product.
Below is a link for a template letter you can use. Be sure to add personal information in the opening paragraph relating to your operation, and where you farm. Also included are talking points related to the issue that you can use to draft your own comment.
